In 2007, the "Remaking Our Heartland" initiative was launched to rejuvenate
residential towns and public housing estatesto bring about a holistic
transformation. In 2011, three more areas towns were included into the programme and
East Coast was one of them.
HDB's ROH programme promises to transform the Bedok Town Centre into a vibrant new
hub, for residents to play, shape, learn and link with the environment. Residents
will get to enjoy various new facilities at Bedok Town Centre, such as the Bedok
Mall and Bedok Residences integrated with Bus Interchange, new Bedok Interchange
Hawker Centre, Bedok Town Square and Heritage Corner as well as Enhancement to the
Pedestrian Malls. There will also be a Bedok Integrated Complex (named
Heartbeat@Bedok) that will house Kampong Chai Chee Community Club, Bedok Sports
Centre, Bedok Polyclinic, a Senior Care Centre and Bedok Public Library.
Beyond the Bedok Town Centre, the HDB Neighbourhood Centres in Bedok will be
rejuvenated to enhance the community spaces and vibrancy of these Neighbourhood
Centres. In addition, residents will get to make use of the Outdoor Play Corridor
that provides a dedicated cycling and pedestrian route which links Bedok Town Centre
to East Coast Park and Bedok Reservoir Park, as well as a comprehensive cycling
network that connects to the main activity nodes within the Bedok and East Coast
area. The social history and diverse culture of the Bedok and East Coast area are
also not forgotten with heritage place-markers installed as part of a Heritage Trail
for residents’ appreciation.
